Fall 2017 Gathering : Embracing Your Unique Self

Join us at Culture C-Street to sip coffee, make friends, & talk about embracing your unique self

In our Fall Gathering, we'll be talking about embracing your unique self. This is something we all want to do, but find so difficult. Somewhere along the way, we've learned to cover up, hide, and pretend we're just like everyone else -- but we aren't, and our unique self, story, and purpose are valuable! Let's get together and talk about what it is that makes us unique, and how that contributes to building a community of people who embrace where they've been and who they are.

You'll hear from the following speakers:

CHRISTIAN FAUTH is a licensed minister and creative arts director. Born and raised in SW Missouri, she and her husband moved back to raise their children after a few years living in Montana and Michigan. She focuses on building relationships and living a life that points people to Jesus. In her free time, you'll find her hanging out with family. Christian has journeyed through mental illness and her passion is to spread hope to others that there is help and healing. She and her husband Carl celebrated ten years of marriage this year. Together they have three fantastic boys, Gibson (8), Hosea (7), and Stellan (4).

KATE ALSUP is a pastor, blogger, and intentional lifestyle advocate. She focuses on building a lifestyle based on living out the gospel, supporting family and community, ethical and sustainable consumption, and creation care. She is wife to Jeremy, mother to Benjamin Lev, and dog person to Winston.

In our June gathering we will be talking about living with purpose. This is the what, where, when, and why of what we do all day, every day. Sometimes it takes bravery to identify what it is you truly want to do with your life and follow that purpose with dedication and commitment - let's get together and share our plans, our purpose, and be inspired by each other and our purpose-filled speakers!

May 2017 Gathering : Joy

Join us at Culture C-Street to sip coffee, make friends, & explore the topic of JOY

In our May Gathering we will be talking about the topic of Joy: What it is, what it's not (hint- happiness!), and how to cultivate it. We may know joy when we see it, but it is hard to put a finger on what exactly gives us joy or how to keep it when times are hard.

Joy does not simply happen to us. We have to choose joy and keep choosing it every day. - Henri Nouwen

You'll hear from the following speakers...

SHAILEY MURPHY co-hosts the popular Podcast, Shailey & Katie, and co-owns Harp Creative, a visual production studio, where she manages, directs, edits, and writes scripts for video projects across the world with her husband. She is also an award-winning interior designer (you should see her house!) and a devoted mom to Opal, the cutest 1 and a half year old little girl you'll ever see. Shailey spends her time juggling motherhood and a creative business like a champ, and loves talking to just about anyone, anytime.

MICHELLE HOUGHTON  is a counselor, painter, performer, speaker, and mother. She strives in all endeavors to connect individuals to their overall potential and creativity, and applies her unique blend of self expression, vulnerability, and empathy to assist others in thriving. She is an Emmy-winning writer and performer for The Mystery Hour, a comedic late night talk show based out of Springfield, MO, where she and her husband, (and host of the show), are raising their 4 year old son and baby on the way.

March 2017 Gathering: Being Brave

Join us at Culture C-Street to sip coffee, make friends, & explore the topic of being brave

Bravery is not the absence of fear. Bravery is feeling the fear, the doubt, the insecurity, and deciding that something else is more important.
— Mark Manson

In our March gathering we will be talking about facing challenges and taking on big dreams by confronting our fear, doubt, insecurity, and other people's opinions and putting it all in its proper place. If you're dreaming about stepping out of your comfort zone, taking a risk (big or small!), doing something new, or making a big change, this gathering is for you!

You'll hear from the following speakers

REID HORN is an alum of Evangel University in Springfield, MO. He has over 7 years of experience as a counselor working with local court programs, counseling agencies, and churches. His areas of interest are in relationship counseling, addiction, trauma, and men's health. As a trained EMDR counselor he has seen success in helping both men and women live healthier lives free of trauma, addictions, and other mental health concerns. Reid is also an avid traveler and regularly steps outside of his comfort zone.

JENN FORTNER is a professional fundraising coach to over 100 ministry workers. Jenn began her journey of coaching after working in ministry for over 10 years and raising her own support to do so. She teachers a relational approach to those she coaches, has coached over 400 ministry workers, and has developed award winning curriculum on the subject. Jenn is also an accomplished speaker, writer, and photographer, and loves musing on the subject of community, intentionality, and relationship-building.

Jenn is also a music-enthusiast, a wife to her loving husband Zach, a mother to daughter Sloane, and the self-proclaimed duchess of Pineapple Whip (Springfield, MO's beloved non-dairy ice cream / not really ice cream / way more than ice cream dessert).

February 2017 Gathering: Overcoming Privilege

Join us at Culture C-Street to sip coffee, make friends, & explore the topic of overcoming privilege

When a person is said to have privilege, it simply means they have been given certain benefits or rewards in societies or communities through no effort of their own.

At our February gathering, we will be talking about privilege: what it means to have it (or not), how we feel about it, and how not to let our feelings about it get in the way of taking positive personal and community action. So often, learning that our success or favor is based not on our hard work, but on our social class, gender, or appearance leads to feelings of guilt or the idea that we don't deserve what we have. So let's talk about it - privilege, lack of privilege, luck, hard work, and how to get over it all.

You'll hear from the following speakers:

STEPH JAGGER splits her time between Southern California and British Columbia where she dreams big dreams, writes her heart out, and runs and executive & life coaching practice. She holds a CEC (certified Executive Coach) degree from Royal Roads University and she believes courageous living doesn't happen with one toe dangling in, but that we jump in, fully submerge, and sit in the juice. Think Pickle, not cucumber. She is the author of the soon-to-be-released book Unbound*

KATE ALSUP is a pastor, speaker, blogger, and intentional lifestyle advocate. She believes in using critical thinking, education, and research to help ourselves find the mindsets and thought processes that encourage meaningful and fully present living. Kate blogs about adoption, psychology, and faith. She also focuses on building a lifestyle based on living the gospel, family, and ethical and sustainable consumption.

January 2017 Gathering: Owning Your Story

Megan.jpg

Join us at Culture C-Street to sip coffee, make friends, & learn how to own your story.

"When we deny our story, it defines us. When we own our story, we can write a brave new ending."  - Brene' Brown

After taking a few months off, we are excited to kick off 2017 with a topic we believe to be oh-so-important: Owning Your Story. Far too often, we walk through life denying our past and present circumstances and choices. We hustle for our worth, ignore our realities, or blame others for our hurts. Lets face it, we all use these coping mechanisms to manage stress in our lives, but they aren't healthy, and they often go unchecked and unnoticed. Without learning how to OWN our stories- including the messiness that lies within them and within us- we cannot grow and move past the parts we need to amend or change.

You'll hear from the following speakers:

MEGAN FITZGERALD is a mother, digital marketing producer, and giftware designer based out of the Des Moines, Iowa, area. Megan has first hand experience with bravely owning her story of battling and overcoming alcoholism. She regularly speaks and writes about her experience vulnerably and openly, and has learned great sharable wisdom along her journey of recovery.

MADISON HEDLUND is a life coach and co-founder of The Bravery Board. She regularly works with women through the process of owning their stories, and has a passion for the topic. Madison will share about her own journey and how she teaches and guides women through the very process that helped her write her story of beauty, thriving, and resilience.

October Gathering: Self Care

Join us at Eurasia Coffee & Tea on Saturday, October 29th to sip coffee, make friends, & explore the topic of practicing self-care.

To be human is to be messy. Loneliness, guilt, sadness, stagnation, fear, marital stress, anxiety, comparison-- these are real states of emotional being that we all experience each and every day, and yet so many of us don't want to admit or face it. Often, we choose to stay in those not-so-fun states longer than we would if they were mere physical.

Speakers Sarah Jo Crawford and Michelle Houghton will share why and how a genuine practice of self care should be implemented into our lives, and how simply changing our mindsets and practices can greatly benefit us to grow and live happier and healthier lives.

July Gathering: The Art of Simplifying

Do you feel over-stressed, over-worked, over-scheduled, or overly-cluttered?

Yeah, we do too. Time to simplify.

Join us at Eurasia Coffee & Tea on July 23rd to sip coffee, make friends, & explore why and how to simplify your life, space, and mind.

We live in a culture that tells us we should have it all, do it all, and be it all to everyone in all situations. Its exhausting. Anxiety, depression, unhealthy relationships, burn-out, and less-than-stellar-decision-making can all stem from living in the "have it all" mentality if it goes unchecked. How does one reach for the stars while maintaining sanity? Simplify. Although it is challenging to make priorities, set boundaries, and get rid of excess, the practice of doing so is key to living a successful and happy life, and is paramount to reaching ones' goals.

Our speakers Sarah Jenkins and Michelle Houghton will speak about their experience with setting limits, simplifying, and how they have learned that discipline is the pathway to freedom.

So come. Bring a notebook. Eat some snacks and get inspired. After you gather some wisdom, we will have a Q&A, partake in a round table discussion, and offer door prizes from local businesses!
